Giallo Antico 2nd Century AD Marble Roman Bust
2nd Century AD Marble Roman Bust. Measures 6 1/8" tall. Giallo antico (antique yellow) is a precious yellow marble used first by the ancient Africans and later by the ancient Romans which they called marmor numidicum (marble of Numidia) It was one of the marbles most favored by the Romans because of its beautiful yellow color. This bust exhibits correct manufacture and excellent patination. The quarry where this form of marble was quarried was first introduced to Rome by Lepidus in 78 BC and was depleted/exhausted around 300 AD. From the Dave Walley Collection.
