1 5/8" Sugar Quartz Stillwell found in Scottland County, Missouri by Rodney Gray.
1 5/8" Sugar Quartz Stillwell found in Scottland County, Missouri by Rodney Gray. Scattered in the glacial till of northern Missouri there are pieces of sugar quartz similar to spanish diggings in structure. In many of those areas the Indians didn’t have good forms of chert close and made due with what they could find which was often material like this point was made of. It was much harder for the Indians to work so generally the pieces that are found made of it are rough. This one however is not. It is finely flaked. We have a fair number of very small stillwells found in the area where this one came from and that seems the most likely type for it to be. Nice point out of a rare material.
