Historic Catlonite Trade Pipe (1800’s). It is often hard to tell how old catlonite pipes are. The native americans have made them for the past 2000 years and still do. This one doesn’t show signs of being a machine made piece, has seen heavy use with heavy buildup of black stain up the stack from all the smoke that has went through it. Has some scratches here and there showing from where it was hand carved with a nice finish which is likely much due to being held and used so much. This piece has at some time had a clean break at the elbow where it was glued together but still a nice display piece of Native Americana. Had a sticker in the stack of the pipe that reads "Felix Western Coll. Great Lakes Area 1800 A.D.". ex Larry Underwood Collection. Measures 5 1/8" long by 4" tall. This artifact was reviewed by Ryan Keele. He said it shows no signs of modern tool use in manufacture and does appear to be a Historic piece likely from the 1800’s like the sticker says. He dont paper broke or restored pieces tho so didn’t ascribe a paper to it.
