Original 1860 Utagawa Kunisada – Utagawa Toyokuni III Japanese Block Print – Edo Period. Utagawa Toyokuni III, also known as Kunisada, was a prolific and highly popular Japanese ukiyo-e artist. He created numerous woodblock prints during the 19th century, focusing on subjects like kabuki actors, beautiful women (bijin-ga) and historical scenes. Wood Block print is in very good condition for its age as shown in photos. Has age toning and some discoloration along the edges as is common for prints of its age. Measures 14 1/2" by 9 1/2". Tokugawa shogunate, also known as the Edo period. This was a time of relative peace and stability, but also of isolation from much of the outside world under the policy of Sakoku. The Tokugawa shogunate lasted from 1603 to 1868.
