Vintage Elaborate Sri Lankan Nagapooshani Naga Mask - Mid Century
Nagapooshani is a revered deity in Sri Lankan and South Indian Hindu traditions. She is often associated with the snake, particularly the cobra, and symbolizes protection, fertility, and power. Nagapooshani is considered an embodiment of the divine mother and is worshipped for her ability to ward off evil and bring blessings. Nagapooshani stands on top of the head of a man with two serpents. Mask is in excellent condition as shown in photos. There is a spit in the wood where one of the cobras is joined at Nagapooshanis hip. Not a common form the meaning of this mask this was hard to interpret. Mid-century Sri Lankan, Indonesian or Balinese. From the life time collection of Chuck and Eileen Hoffman. Measures approximately 22" by 7" by 7"
