Buyer's premium:

19th to Early 20th Century Intricately Hand Crafted Tribal Silver Saudi Arabia Bedouin Large Bead Strand Necklace. Very nice condition for its age. The metal beads on the necklace are made a silver and nickle mix which was how most older silver jewelry was made in that part of the world. Historically, amber has been a key component in Bedouin jewelry, often combined with silver beads and ornamental elements to create intricate tribal designs. While amber can range in color from pale yellow to deep red, the reddish or "egg yolk" amber seen in Saudi jewelry is typically natural Baltic amber or locally collected varieties from coastal regions near the Arabian Sea. Total weight is 1 pound 14 ounces or 866 grams approximately. Much of the weight of the necklace is from the amber. The amber beads are huge examples. Baltic Red Amber is valued at roughly 30 dollars a gram. Specimens this size are likely higher valued. Measures 32" diameter approximately. The scroll amulet measures 6 3/8" wide and 7 3/8" long counting the dangles. From the Chuck and Eillean Hoffman Collection. Chuck and his wife spent time in the 1980’s teaching in Saudi Arabia bringing back treasures like this one from their adventures.
