Large Sioux Catlinite Peace Pipe found on or near Custers Battlefield. Pipe was likely ceremonially killed, used as a weapon or accidently broken and lost at an earlier or later time at the location reportedly found. When something is reported as coming from a famous battlefield we are prone to question its origin as it is out of context. This is a good historic pipe from the period though with the correct manufacture, use and patination for its age. It came with the note attached which reads "This pipe was found on the battle field of little big horn, Wyoming. No doubt broken purposefully and thrown away". 1st note attached to second note which reads "In pipe stem 1992. Probably brought back from Wyoming in 1936 by Leslie Hall Cornell, Sr.. " AI couldn’t positively identify the older note by its linguistics. The use of Battle Field in two words is how it was written in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s suggesting it could very well be from that era. Paper appears old but only a carbon date would prove its age. Good old piece with an interesting story. Length with both pieces set together is 8 1/4" by 4 1/4" tall. Ex Dave Walley Collection.
