Jellyfish Fossil found in Florida Eocene epoch (56–34 million years old). : Jellyfish are soft-bodied animals, so their fossils are rare compared to hard-shelled organisms. When preserved, they usually appear as imprints in fine-grained sedimentary rocks like this one. Both sides from the same stone displaying both sides of the specimen impression. Stone nodule that holds the fossil is approximately 2 3/4" long. Ex Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. "HA" stands for the Hoard Anderson collection, one of the largest private collections of Mazon Creek fossils that was donated to the museum. Hoard donated his collection in 1978. At some point since then the Museum deaccessioned much of his collection to raise money for museum projects.
