Exceptional Artifact & Collectible Auction
Lot 106:
5 7/8" Pre-Columbian Chalcedony Unifacial Ceremonial Blade, 500 BCE–1200 CE
Exceptional Pre-Columbian unifacial blade expertly crafted from high grade chalcedony, measuring approximately 5 7/8" in length. One face of the blade is intentionally left mostly flat with only minor edge retouch, while the opposing face exhibits refined pressure flaking used to shape and thin the form. This construction is characteristic of unifacial ceremonial blades produced throughout the Pre-Columbian period, often created as ritual offerings, prestige objects, or symbolic implements rather than utilitarian tools. The elegant leaf shaped outline, balanced symmetry, and high quality chalcedony material reflect advanced lithic workmanship and ceremonial significance. Estimated age approximately 500 BCE to 1200 CE.
