2 1/8 in Mazon Creek fossil cluster containing a Naiaditesbivalve and two Annularia whorls. Pennsylvanian Period about307 million years old.

This specimen has three distinct fossils preserved together.Combination nodules with both plant and animal fossils are muchrarer than single taxon nodules. This piece captures a momentwhere swamp vegetation Annularia and a small aquatic bivalveNaiadites were buried together giving a rare look at theecology of the ancient Mazon Creek delta.

One Naiadites bivalve about 5 8 in showing both valves.Two Annularia whorls each about 5 8 in with excellent radialleaf detail.

Ex Field Museum of Natural History Chicago.HA stands for the Hoard Anderson collection one of the largestprivate collections of Mazon Creek fossils donated to themuseum in 1978. The museum later deaccessioned much of thecollection to raise funds for projects.
