Rosemeade Pottery, originally known as the Wahpeton Pottery Company, was founded in January 1940 by Laura Taylor Hughes and Robert J. Hughes in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Laura Taylor Hughes, who studied ceramics at the University of North Dakota under Margaret Cable, played a significant role in the company’s success. The pottery was initially marked under the "Rosemeade" trade name in honor of Rosemeade Township, Taylor’s birthplace. The company produced a wide range of decorative and functional items, including animal figurines, planters, and kitchen wares. Rosemeade Pottery became known for its distinctive lustrous glazes and innovative designs, which reflected the native flora and fauna of North Dakota. The company operated until 1961, when it closed due to competition from cheaper imports and changes in labor laws. Excellent condition for its age. Measures 6 3/8" tall.
