Circa 1850’s Utagawa Hiroshige Japanese Woodblock Print – Edo Period. This woodblock print is of Shirasuka Pass. The woodblock print of Shirasuka Pass in the series "The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido Road" was created by Utagawa Hiroshige around 1834. This series captured various post stations along the Tokaido Road, which connected Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto in the 1830’s. For its age good condition. This woodblock print has age toning with a little edge tattering to the top and left edges of the woodblock print. It measures 14 1/8 by 9 7/8" approximately. This print is an 1850’s reproduction of the 1834 original print from the series. Has a note on the back of it stating that it is a reproduction. Has other writing some of which is Japanese as shown in photos and what appears to be a catalog number. Being reproduced in the 1850’s the same or similar methods of manufacture were used giving this a very much look alike to the originals produced 20 years earlier.
