19th Century Belgian Steel Engraving - The Fish And The Shepherd
"The Fish and the Shepherd" is one of the fables written by Jean de La Fontaine. It was published as part of his collection "Fables, " which was released between 1668 and 1694. This particular fable tells the story of a shepherd who tries to charm fish with his flute to catch them but ultimately resorts to using a net when the music fails. This engraving is by Adolphe François Pannemaker, a Belgian engraver known for his work in the 19th century. Has some age toning as expected and still very frame worthy. This is likely a plate out of one of the early editions of The Fish and the Shepherd. Measures 9 3/4" by 7" approximately.
