Lot 547:
Hand Carved Stone Mask from Honduras
Hand Carved Stone Mask from Honduras. Acquired by a sailor in the mid 1990’s while on shore leave in Honduras. Being a local artifact collector he was enticed by the primitive craftsmanship and packed it back home with him. The surface has the scratching and grinding we see on prehistoric artifacts in North America but it isnt that old. The Natives there were utilizing what they had available at that location to try and get some dollars from the visitors. Stone masks have been a tradition for thousands of years in that part of the world. It measures 10 7/8" by 5 7/8"
