Large Carved Wood Sculpture of Saint Vincente De Ferrer Circa 19th Century.
Hand Carved 25 1/2" x 15 1/2" x 2 1/2" Thick Sculpted out of a single large piece of wood. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this sculpture showcases the rich tradition of Filipino religious art. Saint Vincent Ferrer (1350-1419) was a Valencian Dominican friar and renowned preacher. . Born in Valencia, Spain, he joined the Dominican Order at the age of 18 and quickly gained a reputation for his eloquent preaching and missionary work. . He is known for his efforts to end the Great Western Schism, a period of division in the Catholic Church. Saint Vincent was also believed to have performed numerous miracles and was known for his religious poverty and austerity, including perpetual fasting. . He traveled extensively throughout Europe, preaching and converting many to Christianity. . His feast day is celebrated on April 5th.
