Original 1880 Tsukioka Yoshitoshi General w/ Elephant Japanese Woodblock Print – Meiji Period. Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) was a prominent Japanese woodblock print artist. He is widely recognized as the last great master of the ukiyo-e genre and is known for his innovative and creative works. Roughly translated the Japanese text on this page reads: "Japanese and Chinese strange stories. Nichiko found a large white elephant and shot an arrow at it. The elephant was a big elephant. Nagaizumi and the Taishokan were not able to shoot an arrow. The peasants or the people loved Takeshi and gave him money". Board has a certification by S. M. Shiba Miyanoshita. This block print is in excellent condition as shown in photos. There is a minor fold on the top right corner. It measures 9" by 7 1/8"
