This beautifully hand-carved figure originates from the Senufo people of Ivory Coast, Mali, and Burkina Faso. . The rhythm pounder, also known as "deble, " is a significant cultural artifact used in both commemorative ancestral rites and initiations of adolescents into adult society. . It is also a benevolent symbol of fertility and a conduit to the departed. Traditionally used at funeral ceremonies for Poro society members. Represents the primordial couple, often depicted as male and female figures.
