Namji Doll Made by the Namji Tribe - Mid Century Northern Cameroon
Namji Dolls, also known as Dowayo Dolls, are traditional dolls from the Namji tribe in North Cameroon. These dolls are intricately handcrafted from African Rosewood and adorned with colorful beads, cowrie shells, sometimes metal strips and fiber. They are known for their unique and artistic designs, with each doll being a one-of-a-kind piece. Namji Dolls have significant cultural importance. They are often used as fertility dolls, given to brides to promote fertility and ensure a safe pregnancy and childbirth.
