8 Vintage Tintype Photographs of Infants, Children "Twins", and Couples. Largest is 6" x 8 1/2". Tin photographs, also known as tintypes, were most popular from the 1850s to the early 20th century. They were introduced in 1851 by Frederick Scott Archer and saw widespread use, especially during the 1860s and 1870s. . Although their popularity declined with the advent of higher quality paper prints, tintypes continued to be used, particularly at fairs and carnivals, until around the 1930s.
