5 Portfolio Native American Prints from 1932 – Signed by the Artists : Awa Tsireh, Miguel Martinez & Shije. These folio sized prints were published in France by C. Szwedzicki in 1932 – The folio was called "Pueblo Indian Painting". This folio included 50 reproductions of watercolor paintings by Native American artists from the New Mexican Pueblos of San Ildefonso and Sia. The works were reproduced using the pochoir process, a labor-intensive method where separate stencils are used for each color. As shown in photos they have some age toning, blemishes and edge wear. 2 prints are by Awa Tsireh. Awa Tsireh 1898-1955, also known as Alfonso Roybal or Cattail Bird, was a San Ildefonso Pueblo painter from New Mexico. He is celebrated for his watercolor paintings that blend traditional Pueblo art with modernist influences. His work often features stylized forms and vibrant colors, depicting scenes of Pueblo life, ceremonies, and landscapes. Awa Tsireh’s art represents a unique encounter between the art traditions of Native American Pueblo peoples and the American modernist style that emerged in the early 20th century.
