4 1/8" Unusual Granite Effigy found in Iowa
Unusual Granite Effigy found in Iowa. Has a groove going across the center, a well defined ridge that goes from the groove to an opposing side and another small groove on the top with a the other side of the stone being flat. To us this piece resembles a face with a groove going across where the eyes should be and a raised ridge that forms a nose like feature. It may have been fashioned in this way for a functional purpose that we cant comprehend as well. This is the only piece we have seen made like this in the region. It exhibits excellent patination w/ well defined ancient manufacture. It measures 4 1/8" by 2 3/4" by 1 3/4". Key words: Ancient, Prehistoric Native American Indian Artifacts, Arrowheads, Stone Tools
