Pre-Columbian Mayan – The Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque Polychrome Pottery Bowl. Mayan Territories circa 550 to 900 CE. The Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, are central figures in Maya mythology, particularly known from the Popol Vuh, the sacred text of the K’iche’ Maya. Their story is rich with symbolic meaning and reflects the values and beliefs of the ancient Maya culture. Good old pot with good patination. Has had some restoration. Appears to have been in 4 or 5 fragments before restoration. 7 3/4" diameter and 3 3/4" tall approximately
