Lot 129:
Large Pre-Columbian Mayan Polychrome Ceremonially Killed Tripod Plate
Large Pre-Columbian Mayan Polychrome Ceremonially Killed Tripod Plate. Very ornate piece that was broken in ancient times. Plates like this one were often broken in ceremonies as a part of sacrifice to their gods. Close inspection shows that the hole in the center was drilled out and worked to create an intentional hole. Perhaps for allowing blood to flow out…. The other hole lacks that feature and was likely where it got hit. Nicely glued back together this is a very nice display piece of ancient Mayan peoples. It measures 12 3/8" diameter and 2 1/4" tall approximately. From the late Tom Moxley collection.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
