Confederate Civil War Used Gun by E. Whitney & Co. 1 of 200 Made w/ a Bronze Frame. The E. Whitney & Co. N. Haven revolver, also known as the Whitney Navy revolver, was a significant firearm during the mid-19th century. Produced by Eli Whitney Jr., son of the famous inventor of the cotton gin, these revolvers were among the first practical solid-frame revolvers. They were manufactured at the Whitneyville Armory, located two miles north of New Haven, Connecticut. The E. Whitney & Co. N. Haven revolver with a bronze frame is quite rare. Only 200 of the first model, second type revolvers were produced with a bronze frame. These revolvers were part of the initial production run and are highly sought after by collectors. This Pistol like many guns owned during the period was personalized with the first owners name engraved on the butt stock. It was owned or issued to L. E. Burgess. This piece has the wear from use during the period and is missing the trigger guard as shown in the photos and the cocking mechanism or hammer does not catch to hold it back. Measures 11 1/8" long approximately. Rare collector piece that would be a great edition to any collection.
