Buyer's premium:

Mid Century or Older Syrian Mother Of Pearl Inlaid Wedding Dowry Chest. Handcrafted from solid wood and intricately inlaid with mother of pearl, creating stunning geometric and floral patterns. Over all very good condition for its age with the usual use wear. These things were often passed down from one generation to the next so its hard to guess exact age. It has hand incised and hand inlay where the mother of pearl was fashioned to fit the engraved sections. Has incised patterns also going on around the areas where mother of pearl was placed. Syrian dowry chests, often intricately crafted and adorned with inlays of mother-of-pearl, jewels, and hand-carved wood, are beautiful examples of traditional craftsmanship. These chests were typically given to brides as part of their dowry and were used to store valuable items that could help sustain the couple, such as jewelry and other precious goods. Passing down these chests from generation to generation is a common practice, making them cherished family heirlooms. Each chest carries not only material value but also deep sentimental significance, representing the history and heritage of the family. One corner has a section of wood broke off (in a spot that can be replaced fairly easy), patination from use and handling and what looks like some king of patch work that was done on one of the back corners. It measures 28 5/8" by 14 1/2" by 26" approximately.
