Buyer's premium:

16th Century Zoomorphic Lion Head Benin Bronze Armguard. Hand forged a very long time ago this is a very nice piece in excellent condition for its age. Exhibits correct manufacture with excellent patination. There are a couple small holes through the metal where it was likely forged to thin and wore through. Recent rub marks show the high brass content under the patination. Benin Bronzes from the 16th century are primarily made of brass, which is an alloy of copper and zinc. The exact percentage of zinc can vary, but typically, historical brass contains about 15-25% zinc. The surface on the exterior of the cuff have a sheen to the surface which is from use and handling over time. Acquired by Chuck and Eileen Hoffman while teaching over seas in the 20th century. Measures almost 9 1/2" long.
