1860's Hand Colored Photograph of Elizebeth Clark in a Walnut Frame
Victorian Era Portrait Painting of Mrs William Fufue May Jr – Elizebeth Clark in a Walnut Frame – Circa 1860’s. Hand painted on a thick paper which was how many were done from 1855 to the early 1870’s. Portrait has never been removed from the frame. On the back of the frame is an old envelope which although torn still has the card containing information about the person who’s picture this is. It reads "Mrs. William Rufue May, Jn. nee Elizabeth Clark, August 30 1829. Died January 18, 1877. Black Walnut Frame". We didn’t take the Colored/painted photograph out to inspect it. We did take out the colored photo of her husband to inspect and validate that we were looking at colored/painted photo’s from the period. The colored photo measures 11 7/8" by 9 1/2" and the walnut frame is 17 1/4" by 15 1/4". Overall very nice condition for its age. Frame has some surface blemishes as can be seen in photos with age toning to the back cover paper.
