Intricately Handwoven Banarasi Saree Silk w/ Real Gold Thread - Very Heavy
Banarasi saree is a traditional Indian sari made in the city of Varanasi (also known as Banaras). These sarees are renowned for their luxurious silk fabric, intricate gold and silver zari embroidery, and opulent designs. They are often handwoven and feature detailed motifs that make them a timeless piece of clothing. This Saree is in new/never worn condition. It was aquired by Chuck and Eileen Hoffman in the second half of the 20th Century while teaching in Asia. At the time the American dollar went a lot further over there. This is a top end Banarasi Saree with very noticeable weight from the amount of gold thread that was loomed in to it. Sarees of this quality generally sell for several thousand dollars but are rarely available for sale in more recent years with the excessive amount of gold incorporated in to the fine artistry of the cloth. Banarasi sarees are particularly popular for weddings, festivals, and other special occasions due to their elegance and rich cultural heritage. Zari embroidery is a traditional Indian technique that uses gold and silver threads to create intricate patterns on silk sarees, lehengas, and other garments. This Silk and Gold Saree measures 83" by 42 1/2" approximately.
