18th to 19th Century Large Glazed Chinese Rice Wine Storage Pottery Urn
18th to 19th Century Large Glazed Chinese Rice Wine Storage Urn. A glazed Chinese rice wine storage urn is a traditional ceramic vessel used to store rice wine. These urns are typically made from porcelain or terracotta and feature a glaze that can range in color from olive-brown to dark brown-green. The glaze not only adds an aesthetic appeal but also helps in preserving the contents. Solid pot. Has wear around the rim as shown in photos. May be considerably older. Measures 9 1/2" diameter and 9 1/2" tall approximately. Similar jars on the web have been called ship wreck pots, Shigaraki chatsubo pots from Japan and other varying origins and dates. This one is positively a very old Chinese pot. The rice wine stored in this style of pot was no doubt highly traveled through trade.
