Original Circa 1847 Utagawa Kunisada – Utagawa Toyokuni III Japanese Block Print – Edo Period. Utagawa Toyokuni III, also known as Kunisada, was a prolific and highly popular Japanese ukiyo-e artist. He created numerous woodblock prints during the 19th century, focusing on subjects like kabuki actors, beautiful women (bijin-ga) and historical scenes. Wood Block print is in very good condition for its age as shown in photos. Measures 14 3/8" by 9 3/4". Tokugawa shogunate, also known as the Edo period. This was a time of relative peace and stability, but also of isolation from much of the outside world under the policy of Sakoku. The Tokugawa shogunate lasted from 1603 to 1868.
