Yamamotoya Heikichi was a well-known publisher of woodblock prints during the Edo period in Japan. He operated under the name Eikyudo and published a large number of prints, including works by famous artists like Utagawa Kunisada I. His prints often featured actors and beautiful women (bijin-ga), and he employed many artists from the Utagawa school. Very good condition for its age as shown in photos. The left edge in the center as shown in photos appears to have had a silver fish get on it. We were unable to decipher the artist name on this black print. It measures 14 7/8" by 9 7/8" Censore Seal suggests 1807 or later. Tokugawa shogunate, also known as the Edo period. This was a time of relative peace and stability, but also of isolation from much of the outside world under the policy of Sakoku. The Tokugawa shogunate lasted from 1603 to 1868.
