Large Poi Pounder Found in the Polynesian Islands Region 6" tall and wide with damage to the handle. Made from a basalt material. Poi is a traditional staple food in the Polynesian diet, made from taro. Traditional poi is produced by mashing cooked taro on a wooden pounding board (papa ku’i ‘ai), with a carved pestle (p?haku ku’i ‘ai) made from basalt, calcite, coral, or wood.
