MASSIVE 36" Extinct Occidentalis Bison Skull Fossil found in SW Iowa
This is one of the largest specimens of its species that has been recovered in North America. Collectors we know are not aware of a bigger one but we are cautious to say it’s the biggest one out there. Extinct Occidentalis Bison Skull found in SW Iowa. Bison occidentalis is an extinct species of bison that lived in North America, in continental Eurasia and the Japanese archipelago from about 11,700 to 5,000 years ago, spanning the end of the Pleistocene to the mid-Holocene. This specimen was found washed out in a river where it cut in to an ancient lake bed. This specimen was recovered by Bobby McClarnon in Iowa. It measures 36" from tip end to tip end. The horn base diameter is as impressive as the width measuring approximately 15" circumference on both sides. We dont expect to ever see another specimen this size. There has been no restoration work done to this fossil. Extra Large Extinct Giant Bison Skull.
