Highly Detailed 18th to 19th Century Parvati Temple or Wedding Doll. Excellent condition for its age with good patination. Parvati is a significant deity in Hindu mythology. Dolls or wood statues like this one generally fell in to one of 2 areas of use in the 19th Century.Parvati Temples: Temples dedicated to Parvati, the consort of Shiva, are found throughout India. These temples often feature intricate carvings and statues depicting Parvati in various forms. The 19th century saw a continuation of traditional styles, with detailed stone and bronze sculptures that highlight her role as a goddess of fertility, love, and devotion.Wedding Dolls: In Hindu culture, wedding dolls, also known as “Kalyana Sundara” dolls, depict the divine marriage of Shiva and Parvati. These dolls are often used in festivals and rituals to celebrate their union. They are typically crafted with great attention to detail, showcasing traditional attire and jewelry. Like your mothers wedding ring these would be passed down through generations. There would be two one of Shiva and one of Parvati as part of the ceremonies. Measures 14" tall.
