Saint George Slaying the Dragon Icon – Bulgarian Oil on Wood. Made with egg tempera, gold leaf or gilt on a solid wood panel. Made from a wooden plank. The artists that have made these style of paintings utilize the wood they have available to turn them in to works of art following the traditions of the church. This one does have a split in the wood at the top as shown in photos. Age unknown. 9 7/8" by 7 1/2" by 7/8" From the Chuck and Eileen Hoffman Collection. Chuck and his wife spent most of their lives teaching in various countries bringing back interesting and often old pieces from the cultures they shared their lives with.
