2 3/4" Museum Grade Highly Transluscent Pre-Columbian Mayan Eccentric Nose Ring
2 3/4" Museum Grade Highly Transluscent Pre-Columbian Eccentric Nose Ring. One of the more prized styles of Mayan Eccentrics. This is one of the finest of its type we have handled. Bifacially flaked this eccentric/nose ring is made from a very transluscent high quality chert or chalchedony. Holding it to a light gives the appearance similar to pearing into a cube of clear ice or glass. This would have suited someone with a larger nose with the width at the top. The notches at the bottom and the sides may have been used to better secure it with cordage in some fashion to its wearer. This piece was made by an ancient master knapper who took extreme pride in their work. Manufacture is correct and it has excellent patination.
