13th-18th Century Islamic Middle Eastern Mamluk Syrian Tined Copper Brass Vessel
13th-18th Century Large Antique Islamic Middle Eastern Mamluk Syrian Tined Copper Brass Vessel/Pot. Very ornate piece in excellent condition for its age. The etchings on the surface are overlapping patterns consistant with Mamluk artistry on metal. This vessel was made in either Syria or Egypt between the 13th and 18th Century. This is an older Mamluk pot which is evidenced by the hammered metal which is how it was done before machinery was introduced in more recent times. Machines for forming the sheet metals as opposed to hammering them flat took place in the 19th Century. The etching and detail which has been characteristic of the Mamluk people for centuries is exquisitely displayed on this piece. Features reticulated decorations with Arabic letterings and geometrical patterns throughout. Inside the pot is written F 107 3000 u. n.. Likely a collection numbering. Mamluks made this style of inlaid metal pot from 1250 to 1517 with the art form carrying on to present day by the descendents who use machinery to form the metal as opposed to flatening via hammer. This artifact exhibits correct manufacture and excellent patination. Antique Syrian Bowl or Pot. This Vessel measures 9 1/4" tall and 10 3/8" wide at the base.
