Vintage Inuit (Eskimo) Argolite Carved Walrus Stone
Nicely contoured and polished from a nice and large size chunk of argolite. Two bone teeth are faceted in holes on the face. The base has a sticker that reads Canada – Eskimo Art as well as the numbers E – 91689 and 47941. Inuit art, often referred to as Eskimo art, includes beautiful stone carvings of walruses. These carvings are typically made from materials like soapstone, serpentine, or argillite. The walrus is a common subject in Inuit art due to its significance in Arctic culture and its presence in the region’s wildlife. This piece measures 9" by 4 7/8" by 2 3/8"
