Lot 421:
15 7/8" LARGE Highly Engraved Taureg Wooden Bowl - Mid Century or Older
This bowl is crafted by the Tuareg people, who are nomadic pastoralists from Niger and other regions in Africa. Hand carved from indigenous wood with intricate patterns. The maker of this bowl put considerable time in to the artistry exhibited around the bowl. This bowl is in very good condition showing off its use nicely with primitive patch work by metal in at locations along the rim so the tribal peoples could continue using it. Minor chips in the rim which is common for these old wooden bowls. It is interesting to see how they mended this piece with metal stitches that hemmed up a split in the wood on two sides. A very attractive display and conversation piece. 15 7/8" Diameter and 8 3/8" tall.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
