Outstanding Pre-Columbian Mayan Hallucinogenic Mushroom Pottery Vessel – 300-500 BC. This pot was shaped as a mushroom to signify its purpose of containing Hallucinogenic or Psychedelic mushrooms or to contain drug ingredients to be used generally by a shaman. Religious practices involving the use of "sacred mushrooms" took place in the Valley of Mexico and the rest of Central America, and researchers estimate that these rituals go back at least 3,500 years. This pot would have been a part of rituals used by the Mayan peoples. From a practical perspective having the pot shaped as a mushroom would serve not only as a symbol in the rituals but would ensure that no one made the mistake of using what was in it unintentionally with given its shape. This pot measures 7 1/8 tall and 4 7/8" wide. Guaranteed for thermoluminescence dating.
