Mid-Century Shipibo Hand Embroidered Ayahuasca Visions Ritual Cloth
Mid-Century Shipibo Hand Embroidered Ayahuasca Visions Ritual Cloth. This is a very fine handmade ritual cloth from the Shipibo Indians of the Amazon Rainforest, PERU, South America. A very intricate hand woven and embroidered cloth featuring wonderful geometric motifs, using at least some natural organic pigments and creating symbols of the Ayahuasca visions captured in the textile designs. Many of the Shipibo traditions are still practiced, such as ayahuasca shamanism. Shamanistic visions have inspired artistic tradition and decorative designs found in their clothing, pottery, tools and textiles. Appears to be as made unused. The use of the same color of thread on the interior pieces as the brown of the main body of the cloth is a faint but very attractive accent. This ceremonial cloth wall hanging measures 71 inches x 26 inches.
