Inuit Eskimo Whale Bone Figural Face Carving w/ Inset Eyes found on St Lawrence Island, AK
Inuit Eskimo Whale Bone Figural Face Carving. The eyes are made of a whiter bone and the pupils of the eyes appear to be some kind of other material that was inset to the eyes and ground or carved smooth. At one time this had a leather strap that was likely in place for wearing or hanging. The remnants of the strap used are still in place as shown in the photos. Very old piece from the life time collection of Dave Walley 5 5/8" tall, 4 1/2" wide and 1 5/8" thick.
