Large Turquoise Necklace with Silver Hand Crafted Berber Beads - Over 100 yrs old
Large Turquoise Necklace with Silver Hand Crafted Berber Beads – Over 100 yrs old. Very elaborately crafted necklace. The Turquoise pendant is very nice with a chunk of African Desert Turquoise that measures 1 11/16" by 1 3/8" and approx 1/4" thick. The beads were hand crafted long ago by the Berber people. The beads are extremely ornate and in excellent condition as is the pendant. Very solid piece. The Berber people, also known as Amazigh or Imazighen, are the descendants of the pre-Arab inhabitants of North Africa. They have a rich cultural heritage and inhabit scattered communities across several countries in Africa. Necklace weighs 4 5/8 ounces or 134 grams. Typically Berber beads and jewelry are around 80 percent silver. As is the norm in the back country of Africa the necklace is strung on cordage. Counting cordage necklace measures 23". From bead end to bead end the necklace measures 14 1/2"
