21" Antique Silver and Lapiz Beaded Afghan Tribal Necklace
Antique Silver and Lapiz Beaded Afghan Tribal Necklace. With a fair amount of wear this necklace was worn for a long time and likely passed down a couple generations. It is missing one lapis inlay with a chip in another as shown in photos. A nice example of older hand crafted jewelry from Afghanistan. Has a tag on it that says Collected at a Refugee Camp in Pakistan (presumed 1980’s when its last owner was teaching over there). Afghan refugees have sought refuge in Pakistan for several decades. The influx began in 1979, leading up to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. At its peak, there were over four million Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Recently, Pakistan has started arresting Afghans it deems to be in the country illegally, prompting thousands to return to Afghanistan. Approximately 21" Diameter.
