Old Khomeissa Tuareg Leather Necklace Pendant – Mid-Century or Older. The Khomeissa is a talisman worn by the Tuareg people. It takes the form of a stylized hand, resembling a hamsa amulet. Traditionally, it is crafted using materials such as leather (often camel leather) and white shells. The shells may be wart hog tusk on this one. They appear to be bone. The five shell or bone pieces represent the five fingers of a hand, and the amulet is believed to protect against the evil eye and bring good fortune. the pendant measures 2 1/4" tall and 2 1/2" wide. Leather cordage necklace is 20". Still in very good condition this necklace was once worn by a Taureg Tribesman.
