Mid-Century Catholicism Influenced Indian Atl Atl from South America
Mid-Century Catholicism/Christian Influenced Indian Atl Atl from South America. Hand carved and crafted from a long section of wood w/ bent vine handles. The top of the atlatl Depicts 2 animals standing below the cross with intricate decoration hand carved in to the top half of the piece. We presume this is an atlatl by its build. It appears to have never been used and has no hook in the end. From its lack of use this ornate piece was a wall display piece as opposed to a used implement. The couple whos collection this came from spent time in Peru teaching midcentury so it is likely from there where natives still use atlatl’s. A unique item we were unable to find another similar to it on the web. It measures 31 5/8" Long.
