Pair of Neolithic Quartz Ear Plugs found in the Sahara Desert, Africa 3500 to 50,000 yrs old. These quartz crystal ear or nose plugs were found in the NW Sahara Desert. These ancient artifacts were shaped and polished to serve as protection for the ears and nose during sandstorms. Neolithic in that part of the world was around 3500 years ago but some of these ear plugs have been dated with materials as far back as 50,000 years ago. Although primitive these were the protection of their day from the blowing sand. Both measure approximately 1 7/8"
