Lot 273:
2 Gold Pre-Columbian Bird Beads
2 Gold Pre-Columbian Bird Beads from Peru. Generally we don’t take off patina but we did on these. Took before pictures to show how tarnished they were. One of them is in excellent condition. It has a little ball or stone in it that serves as a little bell while the other one doesn’t seem to act as a bell and has had its head glued back on. Very nice and very old gold relics likely from Peru. South American metal working seems to have developed in the Andean region of modern Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina with gold and native copper being hammered and shaped into intricate objects, particularly ornaments. Recent finds date the earliest gold work to 2155–1936 BCE. These 2 beads are nice examples of early gold work in South America. 1 5/8" long and 1 3/8" tall.
Condition: Ancient Authentic
