8 3/4" Highly Engraved Silver Shawl Pin (TUPU) Depicting Inti - 18TH-19th Century Peru
Highly Engraved Silver Shawl Pin (TUPU) Depicting Inti – 18TH-19th Century Peru. Inti is the Sun God that was and still is worshiped by Incan peoples. Even in the 20th century, the Quechua people perceive him as part of the Christian trinity. This elaborate Tupu Depicts The Sun (Inti) with flowers accenting the deities image. The chains that dangle from one side appear to be a knife and two serving plates (open to interpretation). The hand etchings are very elaborate and well defined compared to most Topu’s. It measures 8 3/4".
