Lot 514:
18th Century Bronze Betel Lime Purse or Oval Box from East India
18th Century Bronze Betel Lime Purse or Oval Box from East India. Late 17th Century. Copper wires on the base likely replaced the old hinges that gave out over time. The metal cap on the bottom appears to be brass. Looks similar to a hand grenade but with the amount of craftsmanship that went in to the metal on this piece that is highly unlikely. In researching this piece Betel Lime Box’s seemed to be the closest match to this but there were no exact matches. It could have been used for carrying a variety of things to include coins, herbs etc. This piece measures approximately 4 1/4" tall and 2" diameter
